hello, how are you

Hello, my name is Mehan. I’m a graduate student in NYU’s Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP). In my spare time, I work as a freelance writer and photographer, covering technology and pop music. I’ve contributed to The GuardianStereogumPopMatters, MTV Hive, Thought Catalog, The Village Voice and DCist, among other publications. I’ve also spoken about technology issues at a number of conferences, including SXSW, the National Conference for Media Reform (NCMR), the Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) and the Open Video Conference.

In a past life, I was the Director of Outreach and New Media at Public Knowledge, a non-profit, consumer advocacy group that fights for the rights of innovators, creators and internet users. While at Public Knowledge, I curated and organized the first two World’s Fair Use Day conferences in 2010 and 2011. Other things that may be of interest: my resume (PDF), my NYU ITP blog, my Flickr page and the blog that I wrote while living in rural Japan. If you have any questions, I can be reached at mehan.j (at) gmail (dot com). And if you want to do the whole social networking thing, I’m pretty good at Twitter. Thanks for stopping by.
